Zune Travel Pack
The Zune travel pack is a great way to save money by buying several Zune accessories at the same time.
Zune Travel Pack
It includes a gear bag, charger, sync cable, premium headphones and remote. If you are considering buying some of these accessories separately, then be sure to consider the travel pack too. It's a good deal.
Ok, there's good news and bad news. What do you want to hear first? I'll start off with the bad news...
The bad news is that the travel pack was designed for the first generation Zune (30GB). And it's never been upgraded. It's important to note that you'll get the v1 version of the accessories.
But the good news is that you can get it at a steep discount now. It used to retail at $99. You can now get it for a fraction of that price!
Also, you get the Zune dual-connect remote. This is the only included accessory that you cannot buy separately. So if you want the remote, you'll have to buy the travel pack.
I have separate pages for the rest of the accessories, so I won't go over them again. But let me tell you about the remote.
Zune Dual-Connect Remote
The remote is actually two accessories in one.
- A remote, of course. It has three buttons - play/pause, fast forward/next, and rewind/previous.
A headphone splitter. It's possible for you and a buddy to listen to your Zune at the same time. Without getting only one side of that earbud headphone! Each side also comes with it's own volume control. Pretty cool.
Now if only both of you could listen to different songs at the same time. That would have been really cool!
Technically you can connect 3 headphones to your Zune at the same time - 2 using the remote and 1 in the headphone jack.
The remote has a hold switch that locks the buttons on the remote.
The reverse side of the remote has a swivel clip you can use to attach it to your clothes or the strap of your backpack.
The front view of the remote. You can see the three buttons for play, previous and next functions.
The back view of the remote. You can see the swivel clip.
But does it work with new Zunes?
You'll find a lot of information on the internet telling you that the Zune remote does not work with newer Zune players. This is false. The remote does work with new Zunes. I've tested this personally with my Zune 8GB and it works just fine.
I believe at one point this was true. The Zune firmware probably had a bug that prevented the headphones from working. But this is fixed in the current version of the firmware.
In summary, the Zune travel pack is a great way to save on a bunch of useful accessories that you'll probably have to buy anyways.
